In the neighborhood where I grew up, there were a lot of kids around my age
so we spent a lot of time playing together and exploring the neighborhood.
My only superstition came from those days. The sidewalks on my street were
made of one meter square concrete blocks. Some of them had extra cracks
from the edge as well. One day, my friend said, "If you step on a crack,
you will break someone's back." At first I didn't believe him, but he told
me that god made it true so people would be careful when they were walking
down the street. I was only eight at the time, and my friend was a really
good storyteller, so I believed him in the end. To this day, wherever
I am walking, I always look for cracks to avoid. It's a weird superstition,
I know, but just in case.
