"Write a short essay about your favorite English or Japanese expression."
日常会話で使うもの、ことわざ、比喩などなんでもかまいません。その表現がどういう
意味を持っているのかという簡単な説明を書いてください。また、なぜ好きなのかとい
う理由を追加してもかまいません。

By far, my favorite English phrase is "six of one, half a dozen of the other".
What it essentially means is that there is more than one way to say something.
It's usually used as a reaction when one person has said something and then
another person says it in another way. It's a reaction by the first person to
say, "You and I are basically saying the same thing in a different way."
Here's a typical conversation where you might hear it:
Marcel: Why don't we go to a movie Saturday night?
Shinichi: I don't really feel like going out. Why don't you swing by my place
and we can watch something on Netflix.
Marcel: Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I'll pick up a few beers and
you can handle the snacks bits.
Shinichi: Sounds good. I'll be home all evening so drop by whenever.
