Elon Musk
Elon Musk is a South African-born CanadianAmerican entrepreneur, engineer, and inventor. He
is probably best known as the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX. Tesla Motors designed and
built the first fully electric sports car in 2006 and introduced the first fully electric
SUV this year. SpaceX is a space technology company working on reducing space transportation
costs and developing technologies to eventually colonise Mars. Elon Musk is sometimes referred
to as "the real life Iron Man" (the comic book superhero). This is likely because he is a
billionaire who spends a lot of money working on cutting edge technology that often sounds
like science fiction (much like the comic book character). The reason I think Elon Musk should
be the person of the year is because he is really pushing the envelope when it comes to
technology. He is not afraid to dream big and take chances. This year he introduced the
Tesla Powerwall, a large battery for your home that stores energy generated by solar panels.
He is very passionate about developing clean energy. He imagines a day when houses will be energy
independent. Elon Musk seems to inspire an 'anything is possible' attitude in people which
makes him a perfect candidate for 'Person of the Year'.
