Question 8

There seem to be both advantages and disadvantages of self-employment and of working for a company. What is your view? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.

In recent years, more people have started their own businesses. While there are some advantages to running your own company, I think that working for a company has more advantages.

First, being self employed means you alone are responsible for the success or failure of your company. Decisions that you make regarding expenses and income can affect your business' overall profit and your own lifestyle. With a company, however, these decisions are not your sole responsibility and there is often a team involved. This ensures that even if the company's profits decease or a bad decision is made, it is not one person's fault and all workers will not be negatively affected.

Secondly, working for a company offers much needed structure in our daily lives. Companies have set business hours which require employees to be at work or available. For instance, at my company, we have to be at work from 8am-4pm , which are normal business hours. If you are self-employed, you do not have a set schedule and you can work when you want. Unless you are diligent and dedicated, you may not have a routine and you may not be able to get as much work done. This could harm your business.

Third, being self employed means you may not get necessary benefits. When you work for a company, in most cases you get benefits such as health insurance, 401K and they pay into a pension system for you. When you have your own business, you must do this for yourself, and if you have employees, take care of these things for them. This can be a time consuming and expensive process.

In conclusion, while many people may wish to have their own business someday, I feel that working for a company is better. You are not solely responsible for the company's success and you can have structure in your daily life.

In recent years, more people have started their own businesses. While there are some advantages to running your own company, I think that working for a company has more advantages. ,because it doesn't demand you to take sole responsibility, offer needed structure in daily lives and necessary benefit.

There seem to be both merit and demerit in 〜 and majority of people 〜. However, I 〜

It is difficult to decide/ judge 〜, but in my opinion 〜

There are many opinion about 〜. Of the many I think 〜

Some people 〜 and others 〜. While 〜 ○○, I prefer 〜

最初に、まず第一に first / firstly / to begin with/ first of all

結果として as a result / consequently
〜なので for / since
それゆえ therefore / so

加えて in addition / additionally
そのうえ what is more / besides

一方で on the other hand
それに比べて on the contrary
しかし but / however

まとめると to sum up / in summary
結局〜である (it) all comes down to 〜

1) however, therefore otherwise

× I didn't want to go, however he forced me to.
○ I didn't want to go but he forced me to.

○ I didn't want to go; however he forced me to.

○ I prefer to work big company because it gives me a stable life.

× Nowadays, more and more companies allow their employee to dress casually and I think it is good. Because by dressing casually, they don't need air-conditioning as much as they used to do.

Tips:
