The Magic of Autumn
Whenever I see yellow leaves in the fall, I am reminded of playing in my backyard when I was in elementary school. We had a really big back yard with two gigantic poplar trees. To me, they were a mile high. I couldn't even see the tops. The leaves on the trees grew quite big and turned bright yellow in the fall. Suddenly my backyard became a magical place where fairies and elves would come and visit me. My imagination ran wild and we played and danced and sang together. Eventually the leaves would fall and completely cover the lawn, turning it into a beautiful enchanted golden field. When this happened, it was the most exciting time of all for me because I could gather up all of the leaves into one great pile and then drive into it and grab handfuls of leaves to throw up in the air. Over and over I would build these mountains of leaves and then scatter them into a million pieces all over the yard. It was pure joy! I'm pretty sure that those autumn days are solely responsible for my belief in magic.
