e) He looked out the window and decided it was too beautiful outside to go to work.

All I wanted to do was go for a nice quiet walk. I grabbed my iPod, selected the 'evening stroll' playlist and headed out the door. It was a cool autumn night and the rush hour traffic was winding down. About the third song into my stroll, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a grumpy looking middle aged police officer. He asked to see some ID. I was a bit startled, so I fumbled a bit getting my driver's license out. He took it, looked at it, looked back at me. looked at it, looked back at me again. I swear he didn't even blink. Finally he spoke.
"What are you doing?"
"Just out for a walk, sir."
"You live around here?"
"A few blocks that way."
He was staring at me for what seemed like forever. Finally, he cracked a hint of a smile and told me that several houses in the neighborhood had been broken into recently. He warned me that it might be dangerous to be out wondering around. I thanked him for the advice, said goodbye, and made my way back home, feeling a little disappointed. I was really looking forward to my walk. As I approached home, the smell of cooking brought back my smile.
