Teacher's
review
Facial hair is a big deal. It's a big step on the path to manhood.
I still remember the first time my dad showed me how to shave. He
had an electric razor with rotary blades. The vibration made me
shiver at first, but I soon got the hang of it. I only had peach
fuzz and my skin didn't really feel any different after I was done.
But somehow it felt like a turning point. I was becoming a man.
Over the years I've tried having a beard and mustache on a number
of occasions. I had a goatee for a while (they were all the rage
in my
university days). It felt like I was wearing a mask. It's an easy
way to be someone else. I have a feeling that's why they have this
beard and mustache contest. In a way it's a kind of twisted version
of a men's beauty contest. Although it's an interesting contest,
I can't see myself entering any time soon. I'd rather be a judge.
